You tell us about them

The process begins with a long, gentle questionnaire. Not a form — more like a conversation. We ask about the obvious things (age, favourite things, family), and the less obvious ones (what they say at bedtime, how they behave when they're shy, the word they invented for a feeling nobody else has).

You are not trying to make them sound interesting. They already are. You are simply telling us who they are.

02

We build their story world

From what you've shared, a world and a voice begins to form. We find the shape of a story that could only belong to your child — an adventure that borrows its rooms from their house, its characters from their people, and its quiet parts from their quiet parts.

You see this direction before a word is written for the book itself. If something doesn't feel right, we change it.

03

Bespoke writing and illustration

The story is written to fit the child — their age, their attention, the texture of their days. The illustrations are directed to match: a visual world that looks like the one they already live in, made strange and lovely.

Nothing is templated. The book you receive is the only one of its kind.

04

A keepsake arrives

Printed on uncoated art stock, bound in hardcover, sewn to last. The book arrives in a slipcase, ready to be given, and ready to be read a hundred times without giving up on you.

It is the kind of thing that ends up on a shelf for thirty years, and is taken down every so often, by somebody who is no longer small, to be read again.

A note on time

Good books take a little while.

A bespoke book is a slow object in a fast world. You'll hear from us more than once along the way, and you'll always see the direction of the story before it is finalised. If something doesn't sound like your child, we rewrite it.

You'll know, before the book is printed, that it is theirs.
